XML Script Format

A film script in celtx is stored as an XML document. The components of the script (eg. action) are stored as XML elements within the document.

When a script is imported, celtx attempts to convert the script to an XML document. celtx uses the script layout to match the correct XML element with the associated script text. Below is an abbreviated example of a celtx XML script.

<?xml-stylesheet type="text/css" href="chrome://celtx/content/script.css"?>
<scriptdoc>
<scene ref="http://celtx.com/project/2stMhd/scene/cbVLDx">
<sceneheading>INT. HOUSE - BEDROOM - DAY</sceneheading>
<action>CLOSE ON: A digital alarm clock flashing "12:00".</action>
<action>In the bed AARON BOSTLEY, 37, sleeps soundly despite the sunlight. He stirs at the sound of a dog WHINING. A Beagle named PUDDLES jumps up and licks Aaron's face.</action>
<dialog>
<character>AARON</character>
<dialogtext>Puddles. Go to sleep. It's only...</dialogtext>
</dialog>
<action>Aaron glares at the clock.</action>
<dialog>
<character>AARON</character>
<dialogtext>...midnight.</dialogtext>
</dialog>
<action>He closes his eyes. After a moment, he opens them again.</action>
<action>AARON'S POV: Sunlight streams in through the curtains.</action>
<action>He leaps from bed! With Puddles underfoot, he runs out of the bedroom. There is a loud THUMP from somewhere in the hall.</action>
<dialog>
<character>AARON (O.S.)</character>
<dialogtext>Youch!</dialogtext>
</dialog>
</scene>
</scriptdoc>
