Annotea on Mozilla

Annozilla 0.3.3 re-released

The initial 0.3.3 release didn't seem to work. I've made a new release now (on the CVS main branch, not the patched branch) which I hope will work. If you installed 0.3.3 before 18th March, please try clearing your browser cache (Edit -> Preferences -> Advanced -> Cache) and reinstalling. (This is the error you'll see if you have the wrong version.)

Changes in 0.3.1 were:

  • Goes directly to the annotation server, instead of via the bookmarklet servlet
  • Uses fixed positioning in the sidebar to display the title and annotation body at all times

This is the the Annozilla project, designed to view and create annotations associated with a web page, as defined by the W3C Annotea project. The idea is to store annotations as RDF on a server, using XPointer (or at least XPointer-like constructs) to identify the region of the document being annotated.

The intention of Annozilla is to use Mozilla's native facilities to manipulate annotation data - its built-in RDF handling to parse the annotations, and nsIXmlHttpRequest to submit data when creating annotations.

To use Annozilla, you will need to install the code, get set up with a user account with an annotation server (e.g., the W3C test server), and then you should be ready to go.

You can also see some screenshots - examples of Annozilla in action, and its integration with Mozilla. Currently there are screenshots for both the current released version, and the proposed new version which should be included as part of the 0.4 release, when it is available.
